Meet the Team Day! pt 1

It was finally here, July 8 meet the team day! It was seriously hot, seriously sticky and did I say HOT!! Venus and I were preparing for this day for quite some time. We even got our own DCU4Life autograph books made! LOL I know, I know..lol. So before we left the apartment we went down the checklist.

Camera, check!

Autograph books, check!

DeLion King pic, check!

Money, check!

Water, check!

Are you ready, I’m ready, LEGGO!!

We stepped out of the apartment and immediately felt the heat and we weren’t even outside yet but being the true fans that we are we had no second thoughts and kept moving on.

The beauty that is RFK emerges in the distance and the excitement begins to grow.  We circle around her to get to lot four, our usual lot, just to find out that it is not open but that was not going to stop us so I quickly swerved to the right; onward to lot five!!

As we approached lot five I noticed that none other than Sebi Salazar himself was right behind us which was pretty cool. I try to play it cool and turn into lot five but at the same time Venus said, “It says do not enter!” so I immediately stopped and feeling like a big dork, I looked back and Sebi just went around us and I was a bit embarrassed but, like the heat it would not stop us. I backed up, and into Lot five we went.

As we approached the team store we saw about 10 people waiting to get in. They all seemed to be in conversation. The closer we got the more I heard and it was definitely a war story session, ” Back when I played soccer the ref was asking us the rules of the game.  We played in a 2-3-5 formation!” It was part hilarious and part interesting. It killed some time as we were dying to get in.

Time started to go by faster once members of the supporter groups showed up. That was when the conversations became real interesting. They finally opened the door and we were on our way.

I liked what they did this year with the equipment sale, they did not place it right outside of the team store. which created quite a cluster last year. This time it was placed in the VW garage.  We finally arrived at the equipment sale after trekking about 6 miles of RFK breezeway minus the breeze, and it was brought to my attention that they had Hamid Jerseys for sale. After I got over the fact that I had just screeched like a girl running into Chris Pontius on College night, I ran over and grabbed one. I also grabbed a jersey (2010-2011) for the team to sign, paid for them and made our way towards the field. It really started to hit me that Venus was there to share this experience with. Last year was fun but it was not the same without her.

We stepped together ready for the awesomeness that is DCU.

To be continued….
